We are excited to have the opportunity to learn more about the nature of social skills problems and effective intervention. At the present time we are systematically looking at several questions:

  • What are the characteristics of children who are identified as having social problems?

  • Are there typical patterns of specific social skills and/or nonverbal communication skills deficits?

  • In what aspects of a child's social life are our interventions most effective?

  • How can we make our interventions more effective?

While we see positive changes in children over the time we work with them, what is most important is that they are able to use what they learn at Beyond Words in their "real lives." Throughout the time Beyond Words has been in operation, parents and classroom teachers have let us know about improvements they have noticed. Now we are systematically gathering information about our interventions.

We invite college graduates or undergrads interested in the mental health field to apply as research assistants. You can gain excellent experience in the processing and analysis of clinical data while becoming familiar with various tools of psychological assessment. Trustworthiness is important; all staff must demonstrate their ability to respect and maintain the confidentiality of the clients of Beyond Words. If you are interested in joining our research team, send an email with attached resume to the attention of Dr. Jeffrey Jones at admin@beyondwordscenter.com.
