Beyond Words is both a center for social skills training and a center for psychological services. Our main location is in Atlanta, Georgia and we have a satellite location in Roswell, Georgia. We provide our services to children, adolescents and adults who are struggling with a variety of psychological or social issues. We also offer specialized programs for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome, and other Pervasive Developmental Disorders. In addition, we offer group and individual sessions for non-diagnosed children who need some extra help developing their social skills. Our services include social skills training therapy groups, as well as individual and group therapy. Our groups are centered on joining with others and building positive relationships in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Beyond Words Center for Social Skills Training was created by Dr. Jeffrey Jones, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, as an adjunct to his clinical practice. Beyond Words Center for Social Skills Training opened its doors in 1996. The original model involved teaching nonverbal communication skills to children with dyssemia (a term coined by Marshall P. Duke and Stephen Nowicki to refer to individuals who struggle with the sending and/or receiving of nonverbal information). We quickly realized the need to add training in basic social skills and developed a comprehensive curriculum. Over the years, our staff has grown and we have served hundreds of children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Jones specializes in child, adolescent, marital and family psychotherapy and has been leading therapy groups for over 20 years. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Emory University. He has also served as a chair of the Division of Child, Family, and School Psychology and a member of the Ethics Committee for the Georgia Psychological Association. Our staff is a team of licensed psychologists, licensed professional counselors, therapists, and graduate interns. We are a training site for students from Emory University, Georgia State University, and Argosy University. Our research program is conducted as part of a coordinated effort with professors and graduate students from Emory University. |
